On September 20, 2022, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that effective November 1, 2022, New York City will rescind its requirement that private sector workers in New York City who perform in-person work show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
The New York City COVID-19 vaccine requirement was one of the strictest in the nation for private businesses. Private sector employers can continue to require workers to be vaccinated as a condition of employment (subject to requests for reasonable accommodation for medical or religious reasons). As stated by Mayor Adams at today’s press conference, “[T]his puts the choice in the hands of New York businesses.”
