Kolja Ortmann is an associate in Sullivan & Cromwell’s Brussels and Frankfurt offices and his practice focuses on all aspects of European, German and U.S. competition law, including the global coordination of cross-border merger reviews and investigations conducted by the European and U.S. antitrust regulators. He has been named a top competition lawyer by Wirtschaftswoche/Handelsblatt in 2025 and MergerLinks ranks him highly as antitrust lawyer by total deal value.
Mr. Ortmann has represented global corporations in complex merger control, investigation and litigation matters spanning jurisdictions and industries, including tech, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, fashion, transportation, retail, automotive, biotechnology, telecommunications and industrial materials. He also advises in relation to foreign investment and foreign subsidies reviews and has experience in US civil litigation.
In addition to Brussels, Mr. Ortmann has spent time in the Firm’s D.C. office and he maintains an active pro bono practice. Prior to joining Sullivan & Cromwell in 2021, he was an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in New York and, prior to his legal studies at Harvard Law School, a management consultant with McKinsey & Company.
