Sullivan & Cromwell requires that a Paralegal be a college graduate (four-year degree) who is able and willing to make a minimum commitment of two years to the Firm and who is able and willing to work effectively with other Paralegals, lawyers and clients.

Paralegals must be willing to work a considerable amount of overtime when required by the activity level of the Firm. The Firm is especially interested in meeting with individuals who are academically accomplished, team-oriented and self-motivated and who possess excellent organizational skills. Candidates who are fluent in one or more foreign languages are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Firm believes in the importance of training and development for its Paralegals. The Firm provides an extensive program of organized training relevant to the Paralegal’s role in their practice area.

Paralegals also have access to the Firm’s education programs for new associates. In addition, Paralegals receive other administrative, computer and practice group-specific training. The Firm reviews the Paralegal’s performance and advises each Paralegal of the Firm’s assessment of their performance and progress. This formal review is generally performed at six months of employment and annually thereafter. Informal feedback and coaching are provided throughout the Paralegal’s career at the Firm.

The Sullivan & Cromwell Benefits Program represents an important part of the total compensation of the Firm’s employees.

The Firm’s numerous policies have been established to ensure broad and valuable coverage for all staff members and their families. Employees enjoy generous vacation time, paid holidays and floating holidays.

The medical coverage is underwritten by Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CIGNA).

The dental plan is underwritten by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MetLife) and permits employees to obtain dental insurance for themselves and their dependents. The plan provides reimbursement for many common dental procedures in accordance with a schedule of benefits.

Employees may elect to participate in the Sullivan & Cromwell Life Insurance Program. This plan provides basic, supplemental and dependent life insurance coverage.

Short-term disability insurance provides benefits to individuals in the event of illness or injury not arising from employment. Long-term disability Insurance provides coverage if an employee becomes permanently disabled. Insurance coverage is effective on the first day of employment at no cost to the employee.

In order to assist eligible members of the non-legal staff in the New York office with child-care responsibilities, the firm has instituted a program to address work-related child-care emergencies. Participation in this emergency short-term service is optional. In addition, all members of the non-legal staff in the New York office needing assistance in making satisfactory permanent child-care arrangements may use a separate child-care service affiliated with the firm. Employees may partake of this service whether or not they participate in the emergency in-home child-care program.
