Two Sullivan & Cromwell matters were honored with 2022 LatinFinance “Deals of the Year” Awards, which recognize stand-out transactions in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In the “Restructuring Deal of the Year,” S&C advised Belize in an innovative debt-for-nature swap that restructured $550 million of debt. The deal is one of the few ESG-driven sovereign debt workouts to date, and illustrates how ESG commitments can help countries obtain significant debt relief while achieving long-term strategic objectives. The S&C team was led by Jim Bromley, Werner Ahlers and Inosi Nyatta.
In the “Sovereign Bond of the Year,” S&C represented the underwriters in the United Mexican States’ $2.2 billion offering tied to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. For decades, the Firm has advised underwriters on many significant Mexican sovereign bond offerings, including its first-ever investment-grade bond and billions of dollars of other offerings on the international capital markets. The S&C team advising the underwriters was led by Chris Mann and Alan Fishman.
