Jim Bromley is a trusted senior advisor who has led some of the most complex restructurings in history and has decades of first-chair trial experience in matters that drive headline business news.
Known for his business-oriented and innovative approach in both litigation and dealmaking, Jim is recognized by Chambers USA in Band 1 for Bankruptcy/Restructuring – New York and has been named an American Lawyer “Litigator of the Week” and twice a “Dealmaker of the Year.”
The Co-Head of S&C’s Global Restructuring Practice, Jim has earned the trust and respect of parties across the restructuring field, debtor- and creditor-side. Jim has been representing the debtors in the bankruptcies of FTX and SVB Financial Group, as well as the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball in Diamond Sports’ bankruptcy. He has advised on the most prominent matters across industries, including media & sports, automotive, tech, crypto, financial services, telecommunications, aviation, consumer & retail, shipping and manufacturing, including in times of economic turmoil. During the 2008 financial crisis, he represented the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Securities and Exchange Commission in the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy and Hellman & Friedman as bidder for Neuberger Berman. He also represented the United Auto Workers and its medical trust in the bankruptcies of Chrysler and General Motors.
Jim has taught insolvency law at Harvard Law School, Columbia Law School and the George Washington University School of Law. He is a fellow and past Second Circuit Regent of the American College of Bankruptcy.
