Partners in S&C’s Intellectual Property & Technology Group were again recognized by the Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) series of annual guides, which highlight individuals who “possess world-class skills in the development and roll-out of strategies that maximize the value of patents, copyright, trademarks and other IP rights.”
S&C lawyers are regularly recognized by the IAM Patent 1000, which identifies the top patent practitioners in key jurisdictions around the globe, the IAM Strategy 300, which lists legal professionals generating value for their clients from intellectual property, and the “Global Leaders” list of each respective list, which highlights those who merit special attention for their experience and innovation.
IAM Patent 1000
Garrard Beeney, Nader Mousavi, John Evangelakos, Mehdi Ansari and Dustin Guzior were named to this year’s IAM Patent 1000 list. They were highlighted for their “cutting-edge, genre-defining, commercially significant IP and technology disputes and deals.”
Specific honors include:
- Garrard Beeney, considered “among the very best that the market has to offer” and “a model of civility, sophistication and excellence in the law”
- Nader Mousavi, highlighted for his leadership and as a “top IP strategist and innovative attorney”
- John Evangelakos, who “remains a reference for technology and financial services deals, and is a leading authority on cybersecurity”
- Mehdi Ansari, for “making waves brokering billion-dollar deals”
- Dustin Guzior, a “rising star of the practice” who makes his first appearance on the list
IAM Strategy 300Garrard Beeney and Nader Mousavi were also were named to this year’s IAM Strategy 300: The World’s Leading IP Strategists, which lists leaders in the development and implementation of world-class intellectual property value creation programs. The annual guide recognizes individuals who “possess world-class skills in the development and roll-out of strategies that maximize the value of patents, copyright, trademarks and other IP rights.”
S&C’s IP practice also received firm-wide recognitions in IAM’s California Transactions, New York Transactions and New York Litigation categories.
Garrard Beeney, co-head of the Firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology Group, is recognized as a leading lawyer for intellectual property and licensing transactions and litigation matters. Garrard has handled patent and intellectual property matters before the U.S. Supreme Court, the International Trade Commission, the U.S. Patent Trademark Office, federal district and appellate courts, arbitrations in a variety of forums, and regularly advises on non-U.S. litigation, particularly in the European Community. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in infringement actions and advises plaintiffs on patent selection in pre-suit due diligence. Garrard has also represented clients before U.S. and European competition law authorities, particularly at the intersection of intellectual property and competition laws.
Nader Mousavi is the founder and co-head of S&C’s Intellectual Property & Technology (IP&T) Group, one of the leading IP transactions practices in the world. He is best known for his work on high-stakes, complex and significant technology-driven transactions, whether those transactions are standalone technology deals (such as technology transfers or licenses, technology alliances and patent transactions), or are part of larger corporate or strategic transactions (such as mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures). These deals often break new ground and are on the leading edge of significant industry trends.
John Evangelakos is co-head of the Firm’s Cybersecurity Practice and the Firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology Group and a member of the Firm’s Mergers and Acquisitions Group. John has led transactions in a wide variety of industries, including in the technology and cybersecurity sectors and in the financial services sector.
Mehdi Ansari has been recognized by The National Law Journal as an “IP Trailblazer,” by The M&A Advisor as an “Emerging Leader,” and by IAM Patent 1000 in 2019 and 2020 as one of the world’s leading patent professionals. With degrees in electrical engineering and computer science, Mehdi skillfully guides clients through intellectual property and technology matters in a wide range of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, licenses, joint ventures, collaborations, financings, research and development agreements, settlements and strategic advice.
Dustin Guzior is a member of the Firm’s Litigation Group with a practice focused on antitrust and intellectual property matters, as well as complex commercial disputes in arbitration proceedings and trials. He has represented clients in merger clearance matters in a range of industries, including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, financial products and services, industrial equipment, energy, semiconductor technology and banking. He has also represented clients in patent infringement, patent licensing, trade secret, and commodities and securities disputes. He has participated in trials before the bench, jury and arbitral panels.
