Steve Peikin Authors Law360 Article on SEC Enforcement Approach

January 8, 2021

S&C litigation partner Steven Peikin, head of the Firm’s Securities & Commodities Investigations & Enforcement Practice, has authored an article for Law360 in which he examines how the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission might adjust its approach to enforcement in the coming Biden administration, and what aspects of the agency’s approach are likely to remain the same.

Steve offers insights from his own experience as co-director of the SEC’s enforcement division, a post he held from 2017 to 2020, when he oversaw all aspects of the agency’s national enforcement program. “[M]uch of the active litigation and trial work the commission will pursue in the next years will relate to cases charged long ago,” Steve points out. “To be sure, new leadership may have different views on what matters to investigate, charge, and even continue to litigate, but it will take time for any difference in approach to be felt.”
