In an article published in the September issue of les Nouvelles, Garrard Beeney co-authored an article on standard essential patents (SEPs) with Mattia Fogliacco, President of Sisvel International; Alan Fan, Head of Intellectual Property at Rights Department at Huawei; and Carter Eltzroth, Legal Director of the DVB Project & Managing Director of Helikon.net.
The authors explore how rapid technological advancements have impacted intellectual property law and SEPs concerning mobile communications, wi-fi and digital video broadcasting. Given the increasingly important role that intellectual property plays in the modern economy, they advocate for developing clear and transparent licensing terms. “[By creating] a healthy SEP licensing environment,” they write, “we can promote innovation, encourage investment, and drive progress in industries around the world.”
