S&C was named a Tax “Practice Group of the Year” by Law360. In an interview with the publication, Davis Wang and Isaac Wheeler, Co-Chairs of the Tax Practice, and partner Jameson Lloyd said the Firm’s lawyers pride themselves on being good technicians, and also good practical dealmakers. “We're going to tell you what the problem is … we'll also point out a practical path on how to get beyond the obstacles,” said Davis. Isaac added: “The scope of the deals that we work on are really evidence that we are a group that can develop solutions to tax problems of all flavors.”
The firm recently worked on the largest all-cash medtech deal in history, advising Abiomed on its $18 billion acquisition by Johnson & Johnson. Jameson noted that they faced a very short time frame, which made for an exciting challenge. “I think from the time that it landed on my desk to the time that we signed the deal was a matter of weeks, and we closed less than two months after signing,” Jameson said.
S&C also advised Amgen in its $27.8 billion acquisition of Horizon Therapeutics, and Subway restaurants in its $9.6 billion agreement to be acquired by Roark Capital.
S&C was named a “Firm of the Year” for its showing in these awards, tied for the most distinctions with nine practices selected.
