Renata Hesse Named ‘Lawyer of the year’ at GCR Awards

Renata Hesse, Co-Head of S&C’s Antitrust Group, was named “Lawyer of the year” at the GCR Awards for advising major companies on antitrust and competition matters, including Amgen on its $27.8 billion acquisition of Horizon Therapeutics and Seagen on its $43 billion acquisition by Pfizer, the largest-ever all-cash acquisition in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Four S&C matters were also finalists in these categories:

• “Matter of the year” – client Credit Suisse’s merger with UBS, the first-ever combination of two global systemically important banks.
• “Matter of the year” and “Merger control of the year – Europe and Asia Pacific” – client VMware’s €55 billion acquisition by Broadcom.
• “Merger control of the year – Americas” – client Amgen’s acquisition of Horizon Therapeutics.
• “Merger control of the year – Americas” – client Seagen’s acquisition by Pfizer.

The GCR Awards recognize the “world’s leading antitrust lawyers, economists, enforcers and academics as well as the biggest cases” of the past year.
