Dalia Blass was named an ‘ESG Distinguished Adviser’ in Financier Worldwide’s 2023 Power Players List. The list recognizes leaders who have made significant progress in the ESG field. Now Senior Investment Management Partner and a partner in S&C’s Financial Services Group, Dalia joined from BlackRock, where she was senior managing director, global head of external affairs and a member of Blackrock’s global executive committee.
Dalia’s recent work includes leading BlackRock’s external affairs team which engaged with policy makers globally on key regulatory, policy and reputational challenges and opportunities, including on ESG matters. She also led BlackRock’s social impact team, which committed $50 million to help people living on low incomes build short-term savings, spearheaded philanthropic investments in economic mobility and building an inclusive transition to a low carbon future, including a $100 million grant to Breakthrough Energy Catalyst to finance innovative climate change solutions.
When asked about how she supports the professional development of younger colleagues, Dalia focused on how S&C’s generalist model encourages young lawyers to gain experience across practice areas. She emphasized her role in mentoring women and underrepresented lawyers. “S&C’s generalist model allows lawyers to take on matters across industries and practice areas. There is no better way to develop as a lawyer than to challenge yourself in different areas,” she said. “I have mentored many individuals, with a special focus on women and minorities… I tell my mentees, ‘Once you are a part of my team, you are a part of my village.’”
