In a landmark deal in the development of artificial intelligence, S&C advised OpenAI in its continuing multiyear, multibillion-dollar partnership with Microsoft. In this third phase of their partnership, the companies will focus on accelerating breakthroughs in AI technology and pursuing opportunities to commercialize the technology.
OpenAI is the company behind AI tools including ChatGPT, which can produce human-like, improvised text; Codex, which translates natural language to computer code; and DALL·E, which creates digital images from natural language descriptions.
The Palo Alto-based team advising OpenAI included Nader Mousavi, Co-Head of S&C’s Intellectual Property & Technology Group and Mark Schenkel, Special Counsel in S&C’s Intellectual Property and Technology Transactions Group.
