Karen Seymour and Nicolas Bourtin received GIR’s inaugural “Investigations Professional of the Year” award. Among the matters cited in support of the award were Karen’s and Nic’s leading roles advising Goldman Sachs in reaching coordinated resolutions in multiple investigations in jurisdictions around the world relating to 1MDB, an alleged multi-billion dollar money laundering and corruption scheme. Karen, now back at S&C, was Goldman’s General Counsel during settlement negotiations and played a key role in achieving the resolutions. Nic led the S&C team that served as Goldman’s lead outside counsel, helping the Bank reach resolutions with the DOJ, the government of Malaysia, the SEC, Federal Reserve, New York DFS, and regulators in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore.
S&C was also included in the GIR30, the publication’s annual list of the world’s top investigations practices.
