Frank Aquila offered his perspective on the European Commission’s efforts to regulate mergers following the termination of Amazon’s proposed acquisition of iRobot. He notes that although the Commission rarely blocks mergers outright, companies will often “retreat rather than accept” overly restrictive remedies.
“Given the EU’s focus on tech, as well as concerns around data access and privacy, we can expect that other significant deals in the sector will also receive enhanced scrutiny,” he said.
