On May 6, S&C client China Mengniu Dairy (Mengniu), one of China’s leading dairy products producers, announced that it reached an agreement with Danone to unwind their existing relationships via three transactions.
(1) Mengniu will acquire Danone’s 20 percent interest in joint ventures which primarily produce and sell chilled yoghurt and dairy-based products in China, Hong Kong and Macau, for a maximum consideration of $238 million.
(2) Mengniu will sell subsidiary Yashili’s interest in Dumex, China to Danone for approximately $130 million.
(3) Mengniu will acquire Danone’s 25 percent interest in Yashili for approximately $181 million.
Mengniu has also announced its intention to privatize Yashili for approximately $174 million.
