On January 10, Sisvel International S.A. and RPX Corporation announced a multi-faceted agreement that provides a license to RPX clients covering more than 500 patents included in Sisvel’s Wi-Fi Joint Licensing Program. The Sisvel Wi-Fi Joint Licensing program is designed to license standard essential patents (SEPs) for Wi-Fi enabled devices under fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms and conditions (FRAND). The program includes patents owned by Sisvel, as well as Orange, Fraunhofer IIS, KPN, Columbia University, Hera Wireless, Enact IP and Aegis 11. S&C partners
Nader Mousavi and
Garrard Beeney advised Sisvel.
This transaction was heralded as “groundbreaking” by the publication
Intellectual Asset Management, because it brings together two parties that each aggregate third party market participants to clear the defensive patent risk of a large number of companies. Sisvel is a patent pool administrator that brings together world-class patents from leading innovators to license for royalties to third parties. RPX is a defensive aggregator focused on resolving patent risk for corporations.
