The July/August issue of The American Lawyer features Ms. Ressler and Ms. Payne as Dealmakers in the Spotlight. Ms. Ressler and Ms. Payne were singled out for their work representing Skype Global and private equity firm Silver Lake in Microsoft's $8.5 billion acquisition of Skype in May. The transaction marks Microsoft's largest-ever deal. As Am Law noted, the sale price also represents a nearly 40 percent premium over the value Skype placed on itself in an April regulatory filing. Mr. Rockwell headed the London office's efforts on the potential IPO. Ms. Ressler, Mr. Morrissey and Ms. Payne led the M&A transaction, with Mr. Mousavi providing crucial IP advice on all phases of the deal. “For the last six weeks, we were really embarked upon a dual track,” Ms. Ressler told Am Law. As the publication noted, “They had to move fast, since Microsoft wanted to finalize an agreement before Skype could go public or attract other suitors.” Ultimately, Ms. Ressler said, “The big decision was to . . . determine whether we had a deal that we were willing to sign, rather than go forward with the IPO.”
