Daryl A. Libow, whose 30+ year career at Sullivan & Cromwell began as a summer associate and ultimately included heading the Firm's Washington, D.C. office, died on November 7, 2018. He was a dear friend and beloved colleague to everyone who knew him, and was recognized by clients and peers alike as a superstar litigator. A persuasive force in the courtroom, a gifted strategic thinker and a true counselor, Daryl helped clients solve their most important and difficult legal problems. He demonstrated his commitment to his clients and to the entire Firm by continuing to work tirelessly for both since last summer while he bravely and gracefully battled cancer, always optimistic and always there for everyone else.
Even more than for his professional achievements, he is remembered by all who knew him for his warmth, his unrivalled wit, his lack of pretense and his down-to-earth presence. Daryl gave so much to all of us, and words cannot express how much he will be missed. Whether as a mentor and role model to younger lawyers, a source of wise advice and counsel to all of us, or as the quarterback of the Washington lawyers' flag football team, Daryl was simply the best. He was and always will be our family, and we will keep alive his memory and legacy.
