Sergio Galvis Discusses the Evolution of Latin America’s Legal Market in Latin Lawyer’s 20th Anniversary Issue

January 10, 2019

To celebrate its 20th year of publication, Latin Lawyer interviewed leading experts in the Latin American legal market, including Sergio Galvis, who spoke with the publication on how law firms have changed over the last 20 years. Sergio notes that “[t]he overall representation of Latin American lawyers in international firms is greater than it was 20 years ago.” In part, Sergio said, this is because as the work in the region has become more complex and sophisticated, Latin American firms have responded in part “by investing in lawyers' experience abroad, whether through LLMs or foreign associate programs.” Lawyers then take back to their home countries the best practices they learn abroad about training and managing deals. This not only makes their lawyers “better trained and ultimately more capable,” Sergio said, but it also leads to “closer cooperation between our firm and the various law firms in the region.”
