S&C Critical Insights – Financing with a Conscience: The Growth of Sustainable Finance
September 18, 2019In this episode, S&C Project Development & Finance Group partner Craig Jones discusses the evolution and recent developments in sustainable finance, which essentially encompasses any financial transactions that aim to promote desirable environmental and social outcomes. Craig is joined by S&C Associates Sam Saunders and Zyad Wright. A growing trend in Project Development & Finance, sustainable finance provides corporate clients with the option of accessing the private and public debt markets through green / sustainability bond issuances, green loans and sustainability linked loans. The market has hugely expanded over the past few years – with aggregate volumes of announced sustainability linked loans swelling over 300% from 2017 to 2018 - making it an innovative and exciting field for investors. As a new market, sustainable finance currently lacks extensive official regulation; however, over 90% of global green bond issuers comply with voluntary process guidelines.
