S&C sponsored IPBC Global and partner Mehdi Ansari moderated a panel session on June 18 titled “CIPO scenarios.” This session included Chief Intellectual Property Officers — Jeremiah Chan, Head of Patents at Facebook; Michael Lee, Head of Patents at Google LLC; John Mulgrew, Global Head of IP at Uber Technologies; Wayne P. Sobon, Vice President of IP at JUUL Labs, Inc.; and Gillian Thackray, Vice President and Chief IP Counsel at Thermo Fisher Scientific — who discussed how they would handle a series of hypothetical scenarios in the real world, such as how to advise the C-suite when a major court decision could have substantial implications for the company’s patent portfolio and how to respond to a CEO request to abandon much of the company’s global patent portfolio.
