In its second annual Transatlantic Elite 2009 supplement, The Lawyer featured SULLIVAN & CROMWELL LLP as one of the "Sweet Sixteen" law firms that will shape the global market in the year ahead. In addition, The Lawyer featured S&C Senior Chair H. Rodgin Cohen, Frank Aquila and Mitch Eitel as among its 25 lawyers selected as the "pick of the financial crisis crop," making S&C the only firm with three lawyers to receive such recognition.

Additionally, The Lawyer recognized the S&C team advising InBev on its US$ 60.8 billion acquisition of Anheuser-Busch, the largest global and European M&A deal of 2008. In addition to Mr. Aquila, The Lawyer noted George Sampas' role in convincing InBev to use a U.K.-style "certain funds" financing for its recent takeover of Anheuser-Busch. It also highlighted Jim Morphy, George White and Alexandra Korry's significant roles in the InBev/Anheuser-Busch deal.

The publication also noted S&C's role advising UBS in important litigation relating to the bank’s U.S. residential subprime mortgage-related losses with Bob Giuffra taking the lead; and its $14.9 billion rights offering last summer with Michael Wiseman, Rebecca Simmons, Michael Escue and David Rockwell leading the deal team.
