S&C Receives Law Firm Pro Bono Award

April 22, 2012

On April 22, S&C was honored by Public Counsel, the largest pro bono law firm in the nation, with its Law Firm Pro Bono Award for S&C’s work on Franco-Gonzalez, et al. v. Holder, et al. (Franco), a class action aimed at remedying the mistreatment of immigrants with severe mental disabilities who are obligated to defend themselves, pro se, in their immigration proceedings, including objecting to their prolonged detention. Mr. Steinberg accepted the award on behalf of the Firm. In his speech, Mr. Steinberg thanked Public Counsel for the opportunity to become involved in the Franco case, noting that “the lawyers working on this matter at our Firm have had their professional and personal lives enriched by this opportunity to try to give voices to the voiceless in our immigration system.”

The S&C Los Angeles-based team is led by Mr. Steinberg and includes Mr. Lichaa, Ms. Aliyasova, Ms. Stamenova-Dancheva and Ms. Lawson-Remer.
