S&C Project Honored as Deal of the Year at IJGlobal Awards

July 14, 2021

An S&C project, the $300 million financing for the expansion of the Tasiast Gold Mine, with which S&C has been involved for over a decade, was recognized as “African Mining Deal of the Year” at the 2020 IJGlobal Awards. Hong Kong-based Jamie Logie, head of S&C’s Asia-Pacific Projects practice, and New York-based Benjamin Kent led a multi-jurisdictional team that included Michelle Vickers and Nadine Nijim advising the project company and its sponsor, Kinross Gold Corporation, in this matter.

The Tasiast project is an open-pit gold mine located in Mauritania. The financing is helping increase the mine’s production, reduce costs and extend its lifespan to 2033. Toronto-based Kinross is one of the world’s largest gold producers, with mining operations in Brazil, Chile, Russia, Mauritania, Ghana and the United States.

The IJGlobal Awards recognize excellence in energy and infrastructure transactions and the organizations that manage these deals.
