Sanctuary for Families Recognizes S&C

June 7, 2011

On June 7, Sanctuary for Families (SFF), the leading nonprofit in New York State dedicated to serving domestic violence victims, sex trafficking victims and their children, presented S&C with its 2011 Law Firm Leadership Award at Sanctuary’s Zero Tolerance benefit. Rodge Cohen accepted the award on behalf of the Firm and spoke about the work of SFF.

S&C was recognized for its financial and pro bono support of SFF since 1998, including work on asylum, Uvisa and family law matters. In presenting the award, SFF cited the work of a team of S&C associates who were recognized with SFF’s 2008 Above & Beyond Award for their work on a challenging asylum case involving a young woman from Mali. SFF also recognized the more than 60 S&C summer associates who have trained with SFF’s courtroom advocates project, assisting domestic violence victims who are petitioning for orders of protection in family court. Finally, special note was made of a new project in which S&C associates are staffing a family law clinic in partnership with SFF attorneys at the New York City Family Justice Center in the Bronx.

More than 50 S&C lawyers, legal assistants, other staff and their guests attended the event.
