Rodge Cohen Interviewed for NPR’s Marketplace Money Report on Regulatory Capture
March 26, 2015On March 26, NPR's Marketplace Money Report broadcast an interview with Mr. Cohen on regulatory capture. When asked why he considers regulatory capture to be a myth, Mr. Cohen said it was “because from my experience, the front line of the regulators approach their job with both independence and with a healthy degree of skepticism. But when various people continuously criticize the examiners, it inevitably demoralizes them, and makes the examiners almost inevitably draw back and not act collaboratively, but with suspicion.” On the subject of the financial crisis, Mr. Cohen said, “It was not that the regulators were turning their heads: mistakes were made, and there were some bad actors, there's no question about it.”
