Rodge Cohen Discusses Bank Regulation under COVID on Bloomberg TV

July 23, 2020

Rodge Cohen appeared on Bloomberg TV to discuss bank regulation with David Westin, host of “Balance of Power.” Rodge contrasted the current situation banks face with the financial crisis of 2008. “Banks have come into this economic turmoil with far stronger capital ratios, far more liquidity,” he said, adding that they are not responsible for the problems they are now facing. As regulators consider new rules for banks, they should take into account the current environment: “Regulations should never be static and absolute.” Rodge noted that regulators are making adjustments, but acknowledged it can be a difficult balance to strike. “You want to be sure that banks are not dissipating capital, but at the same time you do not want to discourage them from lending.”
