S&C partner and co-head of the Firm’s Antitrust Group Renata Hesse spoke on a panel entitled, “A New Competition Law for a New Decade?” Fellow panelists included Heike Schweitzer of the Humboldt University Berlin and Special Adviser to Commissioner Vestager, and John Sutton of the London School of Economics and Political Science.
The Chillin’ Competition Conference 2019, marking its 10th year anniversary in Brussels, Belgium, focused on current salient topics in competition law. Commissioner Margrethe Vestager of the European Commission and General Court of the European Commission President Marc van der Woude gave the opening and closing keynote addresses. Other conference topics included “10 Years of Enforcement by the European Commission,” “Articulating the Effects-Based Approach” and “Meeting or Shifting- The Burden of Proof.” Participating panelists included prominent government officials, economists, lawyers, and academics.
Renata is widely recognized as a leading antitrust lawyer with an emphasis on the intersection of antitrust and intellectual property matters in high-tech industries. She currently is the International Officer of the American Bar Association’s Antitrust Section and is a frequent speaker at antitrust and legal conferences and events, most recently speaking at a conference co-hosted by the China Institute of International Antitrust and Investment (CIIAI) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
