S&C litigator Michael Cooper received the 2019 “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the New York Law Journal. This award honors an elite group of lawyers who “have made an impact on the legal community and the practice of law over an entire career.”
Michael’s many accomplishments extend beyond his successes for clients—as managing partner of S&C’s litigation group from 1978 to 1985, Michael assumed personal responsibility for the professional growth of up-an-coming litigators. Later in his career, Michael took up the cause of addressing the widespread, but too often ignored, problem of alcohol and other addiction in the legal profession, helping to found a Lawyer Assistance Program. To date, the Program estimates that it has served more than 4,000 individuals. Michael also has a long track record of pro bono work, including overseeing the creation of S&C’s pro bono program.
The New York Law Journal Lifetime Achievement Award recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony to be held on October 23 in New York.
