Edwin Williamson Authors Wall Street Journal Op-Ed on Trump Efforts to Avoid Conflicts of Interest

December 9, 2016

On December 9, The Wall Street Journal published an op-ed by Edwin Williamson titled “What’s in a Name? For Trump’s Businesses, Everything.” In the op-ed, Edwin explained why many of the plans that have been proposed for how President-elect Donald Trump can divest from his family business in order to avoid conflicts of interest are both unrealistic and unnecessary. “If I were advising Mr. Trump, I would strongly urge him to pledge that as president he will make no decision for the primary purpose of benefiting any family financial interest, and any decision involving an entity that has a Trump business relationship will be transparent so questions of favoritism can be scrutinized,” Edwin wrote. “I do not see how he can effectively promise more, and I do not believe more is needed.”
