Melissa Sawyer Authors Article on Gender Diversity on Boards for Directors & Boards

February 28, 2017

In its first quarter issue, Directors & Boards published an article by Melissa Sawyer titled “Getting to the head of the table.” In the article, Melissa discussed the lack of gender diversity on boards, which these days tend to have at least one female member, but very seldom in leadership roles. “Complicating the issue,” Melissa explained, “are shareholder activists who, despite frequently advocating for board refreshment and corporate governance reforms, actually make boards even less gender-diverse.” Melissa ended the article with a list of specific actions that may help to enhance diversity on boards, each targeted to specific roles, such as the CEO of a public company, an activist investor, a board placement firm and others.
