In November, ESI Africa published an article by Inosi Nyatta titled “Infrastructure development under surveillance.” The article explained that the gulf between supply and demand for electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa contributes to enormous economic losses on the continent. The piece outlines major developments in the power sector across the region in recent years, persistent challenges in access to electricity including the financing gap, gas opportunities and off-grid solutions, as well as key bankability issues and solutions. The article concludes with an exploration of new challenges on the horizon. “Due to the complexity of the legal, regulatory and market landscape it is important to engage advisers to coordinate efficiently to achieve project targets in a manner that maximises value for all involved,” Inosi said. This article was originally published in Issue 5 2017 of ESI Africa – Africa’s power journal. The digital version of the full magazine and back issues can be read online or downloaded free of charge.
