In its November 2016 issue, The Capco Institute Journal of Financial Transformation published an article by Andrew Gerlach, Rebecca Simmons and Stephen Lam titled “U.S. Regulation of FinTech – Recent Developments and Challenges.” The article explained how financial services regulation in the United States is fragmented and thus slow to adapt, which can make it difficult to implement FinTech innovations while maintaining satisfactory regulatory standards. “Great opportunities raise great risks, and the development of FinTech is no exception. In an environment where the tolerance for risk is low and the number of parties required to assess the risk is high, innovation may be difficult to sustain,” Andrew, Rebecca and Stephen concluded. “However, given the significance of these developments and the demand for new products and services, the pressure on regulators and legislatures to find means to ease the path for innovators will continue.”
