The Thomson Reuters Foundation honored S&C with its 2019 TrustLaw "Innovation Award." The annual awards ceremony celebrates groundbreaking pro bono projects undertaken by legal teams with NGOs and social enterprises around the world. TrustLaw is the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono legal program.
S&C was recognized for its work with the law firm Pandya & Poonawala for advising Akiba Mashinani Trust on the legal frameworks governing land use and ownership in an informal settlement in Mukuru, Kenya. “This work was an important step towards the protection of human rights for some of the poorest people in Kenya,” said Thomson Reuters Foundation CEO Antonio Zappulla.
The S&C team in London included partner Chris Beatty and associates Sam Saunders, Louis Grandjouan, Maria Lacayo and Jeffrey MacDonald.
