Frank Aquila Talks to MarketWatch About Deal Activity

October 2, 2020

Frank Aquila, S&C's global head of M&A, discussed with MarketWatch this year's trends in deal activity and the outlook for the future. Global M&A volumes rose to more than $1 trillion over the summer, putting investment banks on course for their best year in more than a decade.

Despite this trend, Frank cautions that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic could slow activity in the final quarter. “Clearly there is great momentum to this deal activity, but another winter COVID spike with further lockdowns could slow the pace and push deals into 2021,” Frank said. He added that activity in Europe, however, could pick up as final Brexit terms become known: “Then we can expect to see a significant number of European deals as companies inside and outside the EU seek to realign based on the new economic reality.”
