Pavan Surapaneni Named a 2019 “Sports Trailblazer” by The National Law Journal

November 7, 2019

S&C partner Pavan Surapaneni, a member of the General Practice group, has been named an inaugural “Sports Trailblazer” in a special supplement by The National Law Journal. The Trailblazers series spotlights legal practitioners recognized as agents of change in their given practice area from across the country.

“Our team has been involved in the most complicated, impactful sports transactions there have been in the last five years,” said Pavan, whose profile in NLJ highlights his work advising a variety of clients in high-profile sports matters, including his representation of Joe Tsai in his acquisition of the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center. Pavan also regularly advises sports teams, like the Atlanta Hawks, as well as sports organizations, like Major League Baseball.

As the industry itself develops, the Firm’s and Pavan’s practice has grown significantly. When asked about potential future explorations for the market, Pavan said, “With recent changes in legislation around gambling in the United States, various states are looking to monetize sports wagering in a responsible fashion.” Another new area where the group has excelled is in the eSports space, which The National Law Journal believes “represents a new and burgeoning product that those in traditional sports may be able to use to reach different audiences.” Pavan recently advised c0ntact gaming in its acquisition of the Paris franchise of the Call of Duty League.
