Sharon Nelles received the Honorable Shira A. Scheindlin Award for Excellence on November 13 at the U.S. District Court Southern District of New York, Daniel Patrick Moynihan United States Courthouse in Manhattan. This award is given to a female litigator who has distinguished herself in the courtroom in either the federal or state courts in New York and who has shown a commitment to mentoring young lawyers in the legal community.
Sharon represents a host of high-profile clients in litigation that crosses a variety of industries, including automotive, financial institutions and consumer goods, as well as practices areas, including securities, antitrust, commercial litigation and investigations and enforcement work. She is deeply committed to her
pro bono practice, which includes her work as legal counsel to TIME’S UP New York, a group of women in the entertainment industry who came together in the wake of sexual harassment revelations to address inequality and injustice in the workplace.
The Commercial and Federal Litigation section of the New York State Bar Association created the Shira A. Scheindlin Award for Excellence in the Courtroom to honor Shira Scheindlin, who served as a U.S. district judge for the Southern District of New York from 1994-2016. The Section presents the award annually in November, around the date when women received the right to vote in New York State in 1917.
