S&C has advised on “at least 14 of the world's 100 biggest corporate enforcement actions,” according to a recent article in Global Investigations Review – twice as many as any other law firm. In the article, Nic Bourtin, managing partner of our Criminal Defense and Investigations Group, told GIR that the key to S&C's success in these investigations is its “generalist approach to supporting its clients.” He added that S&C's multifaceted approach is well-suited to clients facing crises. “These institutions require a wide breadth of expertise in resolving what are often multidimensional issues and the resulting spin-off work,” said Nic.
The article, titled “Sullivan & Cromwell most active firm on largest 100 settlements,” was published on March 19. Among the many settlements on which S&C has advised, GIR highlighted S&C's work advising BP following the Deepwater Horizon spill; its representation of Volkswagen following the company's emissions scandal; Goldman Sachs in its settlement with the DOJ and state AGs over its RMBS sales; and others, including work that resulted in the Firm being named a Law360 White Collar Practice Group of the Year in February. “The firm's busy agenda shows little sign of abating,” GIR wrote.
