Frank Aquila appeared on CNBC's Squawk on the Street in a segment titled, "The Return of M&A." The segment reviewed the past year in mergers and acquisitions activity and whether recent deals signify that the M&A market is back. Reflecting on the past year, Mr. Aquila said that "[t]he real difference is last year there was a level of fear, particularly later in September and early October, that none of us have ever seen. Now, we're back to a period of confidence–not the irrational exuberance (at least not yet)–that we saw a number of years ago, but certainly a great degree of confidence. If you look at the deals that have been done, these are strategically driven deals and these are deals that I think companies would have wanted to do a year or two ago, but there was no ability to do it...." Mr. Aquila also discussed the reasoning behind recent deals and what the M&A market can expect looking ahead. "Most importantly, for most companies it's long term strategic growth and positioning. That's why companies really do deals and that's what we're seeing a return to in the last few weeks, and I think we're going to see more of it," he said.
