Sullivan & Cromwell Expands its International Private Client Practice to its London OfficeAugust 18, 2013
Sullivan & Cromwell LLP announced today that partner Basil Zirinis will move to the firm’s London office, effective August 19, 2013.
Mr. Zirinis has been a partner in Sullivan & Cromwell’s Estates and Personal Group since 1994 and leads its international private client practice. In London, he will continue to represent individuals, fiduciaries and family-controlled businesses throughout the world in a broad range of matters, including international estate and trust planning, family business governance and transition, and trust and estate litigation.
“Basil has a long history and leading practice in the representation of individual clients with worldwide interests and issues,” said Joseph C. Shenker, Chairman of Sullivan & Cromwell. “His move to London will allow him and the firm to serve those clients even more effectively.”
“Our clients and their advisors with whom we work around the world have encouraged us to make this move for some time,” said Mr. Zirinis. “The breadth of our international private client practice is unusual among U.S. firms, and London is a natural place for us to be.”
Richard C. Morrissey, Managing Partner of Sullivan & Cromwell’s London office, said, “S&C’s European offices represent a number of worldwide private equity and hedge funds. Basil’s expertise will further augment the firm’s ability to provide the highest quality advice in his area to principals in these funds, who often have a U.S. nexus requiring sophisticated cross-border counseling.”
Mr. Zirinis is a member of The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law and of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He has been recognized as a leading lawyer in Chambers Global, The Best Lawyers in America and Legal Week’s “International Trusts & Private Client Elite,” and speaks regularly at international conferences regarding U.S. and international tax and estate planning, including most recently in Shanghai, London, Lake Como, New York and Istanbul. Mr. Zirinis received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1985.
On September 23, 2013, Mr. Zirinis will be joined in the London office by Katherine DeMamiel, an associate in Sullivan & Cromwell’s Estates and Personal Group. Ms. DeMamiel received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2010.
