March 10, 2017

On March 10, Bloomberg Big Law Business published a profile of Bob Giuffra titled “Sullivan & Cromwell's Robert Giuffra: From Rehnquist to VW.” The article outlined Bob's path to his present work at S&C as national coordinating counsel for Volkswagen in its diesel emissions issues, highlighting career accomplishments such as time as a staffer in the Reagan White House; clerkships with Judge Ralph Winter of the Second Circuit and Chief Justice William Rehnquist of the U.S. Supreme Court; and acting as chief counsel of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. Bob spoke about how his clerkships taught him how to determine the winning argument in a case. “The most important question of any case is 'Why should we win?' Why should the judge rule for us and not the opponent?” He noted that today, he's often called upon to work on complex, challenging litigation, saying, “Not too many people call me with the easy slam-dunk winners.”
