Bob Giuffra Named Litigator of the Week by The Am Law Litigation Daily

January 3, 2013

On January 3, The Am Law Litigation Daily selected Mr. Giuffra as its Litigator of the Week for his successful representation of Porsche after New York's Appellate Division, First Department, reversed Justice Charles Ramos and dismissed two complaints brought by more than a dozen leading global hedge funds, alleging more than $1.4 billion in damages, claiming Porsche engaged in fraud in connection with its efforts to acquire a large stake in Volkswagen AG in 2008. The hedge funds brought their New York State Court complaints after S&C obtained, in December 2010, the dismissal of federal claims against Porsche based on the U.S. Supreme Court's 2010 landmark decision in Morrison v. National Australia Bank. As described by Am Law: “For a defense-side litigator, it's hard to beat closing out the calendar year with a billion-dollar win for a major client. And if your success happens to make life harder for a other plaintiffs, so much the better.” This is the second time since January 2012 that Mr. Giuffra has been named Am Law Litigator of the Week, the most of any lawyer over that period, adding to his previous win for his work on MBIA in 2011.
