The Am Law Litigation Daily Names Bob Giuffra Litigator of the Week

October 4, 2012

The October 4 issue of The Am Law Litigation Daily named Mr. Giuffra Litigator of the Week for representing UBS AG in a putative shareholder class action in which plaintiffs sought billions in damages based on UBS's market capital decline of $114.8 billion following the collapse of the mortgage-backed and auction-backed securities market, and UBS's settlements with the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission of charges that UBS assisted U.S. customers to evade taxes. In September 2012, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York dismissed all claims by investors who acquired UBS shares outside the U.S. Last week, the court dismissed all remaining claims against UBS, with prejudice, for the plaintiffs' failure to show UBS acted with fraudulent intent in making public statements about its mortgage-backed securities and auction rate securities business, and that UBS did not make any material misstatements about its U.S. cross-border business.
