The Deal Reports on Rodge Cohen’s Approach to Activists' Threats to Financial Institutions

October 30, 2015

On October 30, The Deal published an article titled “Sullivan's Rodgin Cohen goes for lead activist opponent pole position,” which outlined Mr. Cohen's recent efforts to encourage the Federal Reserve to increase regulation of activist investors in the financial services industry. In the article, he urged the Fed and other government agencies to inquire whether hedge fund activists are exercising too much controlling influence while dodging regulation, challenging them to apply their definition of control to include investors acting in concert. “I think we need that searching inquiry into activists,” Mr. Cohen said. “When you see three to five of the same activists in five or six banks always being there is it just a coincidence? I doubt it.”
