Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG), a liquefied natural gas company and Australia’s largest producer of coal seam gas, completed a refinancing of a portion of its existing project financing on March 29. APLNG entered into a new term loan with a syndicate of commercial banks and also completed a private placement of $600 million aggregate principal amount of 4.85% senior secured notes due 2030, the proceeds of which were used to prepay certain portions of the company’s existing project financing. This follows an earlier refinancing in September 2018, when APLNG completed a $1.4 billion private placement – a deal on which S&C also advised, and which was named “APAC Midstream Oil & Gas Deal of the Year” by IJGlobal.
S&C partners advising APLNG in this matter were Inosi Nyatta, Jamieson Logie and Waldo Jones. This refinancing marks a continuation of S&C’s longstanding relationship with APLNG, which dates back to 2009, when the firm was engaged to advise on the company’s $20 billion LNG project in Queensland. The firm represented APLNG in securing the company’s initial project finance debt of $8.5 billion in 2012, and has provided ongoing advice to the project since that time.
