Frank Aquila Interviewed on Bloomberg’s Deal of the Week Podcast
November 25, 2015On November 25, Bloomberg's Alex Sherman and Jeff McCracken interviewed Mr. Aquila as part of the Deal of the Week podcast. When discussing whether the current level of deal activity is comparable to 2007, Mr. Aquila said, “When you look at what market values are today, as compared to 2005, 2006, 2007, market caps for equivalent companies are way up, earnings are way up. So it really isn't equivalent. Secondly, the types of deals you're seeing are very different: these are strategic deals, by and large.” Mr. Aquila also talked about how much more involved lawyers are in a negotiation today compared with the early- to mid-1980s, when lawyers would “rush in and paper up the deal, and launch the tender offer.” He said, “Today the lawyers are much more front and center, and in many cases we're playing larger roles in a number of ways. One, is doing the due diligence, guiding the company and their board…we are [also] getting much more involved in negotiation.”
