Frank Aquila Discusses Why So Many M&A Deals Are Being Blocked on CNBC’s Power Lunch

May 11, 2016

On May 11, Mr. Aquila was interviewed on CNBC's Power Lunch to discuss why so many recent M&A deals signed in 2015 are being blocked in 2016. Mr. Aquila acknowledged that a number of recent deals have been blocked, but pointed out that the number of deals that were failing to close was not as significant as it might seem given the record number of significant deals announced last year. However, he called for forward-thinking regulation that reflects the realities of the market. Mr. Aquila said. “There's a need for regulation, there's a need to protect consumers, but it has to be done in a way that looks at the reality of competition today.” Mr. Aquila also discussed what sorts of considerations regulators do and do not take into account when they approve deals, as well as the reasons why parties may not be willing to make the concessions necessary to obtain regulatory approval.
