Aisling O’Shea Joins Sullivan & Cromwell as Special Counsel From Department of Justice

October 30, 2017

Sullivan & Cromwell LLP announced today that Aisling O'Shea has re-joined the Firm's Washington, D.C. office as Special Counsel in the Litigation Group, where her practice will focus on criminal defense, government investigations and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Ms. O'Shea re-joins the Firm following five years as a trial attorney in the Fraud Section of the U.S. Department of Justice's Criminal Division.

“Aisling's presence further strengthens our world-class criminal defense practice,” said Karen Seymour, a partner in the Litigation Group and member of the Firm's Management Committee. “Her deep government experience further enhances the value we deliver to global clients in the increasingly important area of FCPA compliance and enforcement.”

Ms. O'Shea is among more than a half-dozen attorneys who have joined S&C from the DOJ, the U.S. Attorney's office and other government agencies over the past year. With global regulation and enforcement activities on the rise, these additions strengthen the Firm's capabilities in both regulatory review and corporate defense for the benefit of S&C clients worldwide.

Within the Criminal Division, Ms. O'Shea was a member of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Unit, of the Fraud Section, where she focused on international corruption, securities and healthcare fraud, and other complicated economic crimes.

She was part of the team that was awarded the Homeland Security Investigations 2016 Outstanding Financial Investigation. That award came for a high-profile FCPA and money-laundering investigation involving corruption in a state-owned oil company in Venezuela. The investigations resulted in multiple convictions and significant judgments.

A former associate with Sullivan & Cromwell, Ms. O'Shea is a graduate of Georgetown University (B.S., magna cum laude, 2000) and the University of Virginia School of Law (J.D., 2003).
