Michelle Chen and Samantha Hynes Named “D.C. Rising Stars” by The National Law Journal
September 13, 2022Michelle Chen and Samantha Hynes have been named “D.C. Rising Stars” by The National Law Journal. The award recognizes the Washington, D.C., region’s 40 most promising lawyers age 40 and under who influence their practice areas, succeed on behalf of their clients, demonstrate leadership qualities and engage in community-based work.
Michelle Chen is a partner in S&C’s Financial Services Group with a versatile regulatory and transactional practice. Michelle recently advised M&T Bank in its $8.3 billion acquisition of People's United Financial, is guiding Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group in its pending $8 billion sale of its U.S. core regional banking franchise to U.S. Bancorp, and is advising Capital One on the reorganization of its U.S. banking business. She also regularly advises financial institutions and banking trade associations on climate-related disclosure matters and is a member of the Firm’s Environmental Task Force.
Samantha Hynes is a partner in S&C’s Litigation Group who focuses on antitrust matters. Her practice includes merger reviews at the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission, as well as high-stakes commercial litigation. She has advised Canadian Pacific in its $31 billion acquisition of Kansas City Southern, contributed to persuading the Federal Trade Commission to clear Amazon’s $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods Market and helped deliver victories for Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche in proposed antitrust class action litigation. Samantha is a Founding Team Member of [email protected] Americas and a frequent speaker on antitrust topics.
