Melissa Sawyer Talks to Dealreporter About Shareholder Activism in 2021

Melissa Sawyer, co-head of Sullivan & Cromwell's Corporate Governance & Activism Practice, discussed the impact of shareholder activism on the upcoming proxy season with Dealreporter. Although activists “took their foot off the pedal” over the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Melissa said the slowdown likely won't last through 2021, given that activist activity picked up in the second half of last year. She added that activists may take aim at executive compensation, in light of the sentiment that shareholders have borne the brunt of the pandemic-related pain.
